Powderpost Beetles

Among the man different kinds of insects that attack wood, the destructiveness of powderpost beetles is second only to termites. Pinhole openings, often called shot holes, perforate the surface of infested wood. The size of these holes varies, depending on the family and species of the beetles involved. Infestations are often built into structures as a result of using infested lumber. The first evidence of infestation is usually piles of very fine sawdust on or beneath wood and small round holes in the surface.

Controlling Powderpost Beetles

Treatment is the same as treating for Old House Borers. Fumigation is the best but very expensive and will cost thousands of dollars. Residual sprays provide effective control in most cases and should be applied at a low pressure using a flat fan nozzle to obtain thorough coverage.
